I had a bunch of papers I didn't know what to do with, so I went shopping. I found this sturdy cabinet at a thrift store. I saw some potential and went to work.
This is my headboard and I wanted the cabinet to match.
First, I thought it could use some legs. Legs are not cheap, but we found these and added them to the bottom. I always have this picture in my head of what I want it to look like ~ the legs in my head were much larger.
Then I found this ceiling tile, that I loved. This was not pictured in my head, but when I saw it the picture transformed.
I made Mike frame it on to the front of the cabinet. I also made him add some molding on the top to finish it off. Then I puttied and sanded.
I painted it white, sanded it (again) and stained it with a walnut stain.
I liked the way it turned out and my papers fit nicely with room to spare. I still need to add knobs, but that will have to be some other day.

Nice! Now...who has no talent?? If you use pewter knobs it would look really cool too. Can't wait to see it, we'll be there for Thanksgiving again this year and we'll have to stop by your house. By the way, it was so good to see you last weekend!
love it! love the cabinet, love the blog, love your family - just love it. Thanks again for the wonderful time last night and for inviting us to be a part of your life (and your blog).
And you say you have no talent....yeah right. This is beautiful!
do you have any idea how handy it would be to have you live closer to me? very, very handy. come on down.
wow, amazing kelly!!
I hate (not really) people like you who can just dream something like this up. I always have to copy other people's ideas. OR I see something at a thrift store and think, "I bet there's potential in that piece, but I don't know what it is" so I don't get it. If we lived closer we would have to hit up some thrift stores together so the when I think, "I don't know what to do with this thrifty piece of furniture" you can fill my head up with ideas.
Good work!
Wow Kelly, if I didn't know better I would never guess that you were the mother of 6 kids. I am always amazed at the huge projects you can accomplish. Great job!
It's time for you to start your own show.
That is so pretty! How do you find time for all these cute projects?
That's awesome! I'm impressed!
Kelly, it turned out amazing!!
I love how the tile looks like it belong there.
